IT IS OCTOBER! Somehow it happened, a month flew by without noticing. Fall is truly here in New York City, As I am juggling pre-production for SYNAMO (read my blog on the film page of my site) and several other projects, I am packing my bags to direct two Music Videos for the great singer Izaline Callister. http://www.izalinecalister.nl/
We film in my hometown of CURAÇAO from October 5 till 10.(See the picture for one of the sites) Working again with Dolph van Stapele.

On a personal note while I am away, on October 6h, composer, artist, guitarist and husband Vernon Reid receives the Mayor’s award for Arts and Culture from New York’s Mayor Bloomberg himself.

Dancer/choreographers Marianela Boán (Cuba), Tania Isaac (St. Lucia), and Gabri Christa (Curaçao) share more than their Caribbean origins, all three work at the intersection of contemporary movement and new media technologies, while reflecting upon their real and imagined traditions of their native cultures. For the last nine months, these artists have been working collaboratively to create new work, which will be showcased over three consecutive performances.

I have been writing for an on line scholarly journal the last days and after so many years of not writing I got extremely rusty. Writing, like any other skill, takes practice. I have not been at it, for years now. Therefore, be with me, I am going to enter more thoughts on these upcoming pages. Thoughts about my artistic process, or anything else that might be of interest. Also contemplating going to wordpress (sorry blogger) I like the option it gives me.

In anticipation of their two year-old child's fiftieth birthday, two older parents create a digital video - part time capsule, part time travel - and fill it with love and living memories, as a gift for their child to open in the future.

Award-winning choreographers and performers Gabri Christa and Niles Ford have collaborated and danced together for the last 15 years. This multi-media performance incorporates moments from their past and integrates lots of new. Through dance, spoken and sung text, the performers inhabit a vivid and visceral world conjured by video artist and Obie Award winner Marilys Ernst and filled with live music by Greg Tate's of the neo-tribal big band Burnt Sugar (The Arkestra Chamber).

So proud to tell you that "Quarantine"the first of the dance film series
"ANOTHER BUILDING dancing"is about finished. It only needs some permanent music, but is send to festivals already and will start having the first official screenings in November in New York. I will keep you posted. Check back in.

ANOTHER BUILDING dancing is a film series that places dance in historically important buildings around the world.

1: QUARANTINE:(2007) the first film in the series, is about an older man who observes his younger self dancing in a building in Curaçao, the Netherlands Antilles, where Africans were quarantined en route to the Americas.

Update Summer 2006 and beyond

The summer is flying by. I have been working hard on several projects that probably will all happen at the same time :-). On Bonaire I have been location scouting and filming footage for my new multi media piece. Some grants went out, some proposals are in the works, ah the usual. Finished the first draft of the Screen play for my new short "The Return"
I started rehearsals for a new piece, a duet with Sheila Rohan, which we will first perform at the International Choreographer's Festival at Center of the Arts of CUNY's College of Staten Island.
In September I will join the faculty of Barnard College Dance Department as guest artist. I will choreograph a piece for the season at Dance Theater Workshop, which will take place in December.
In September I also will join the faculty of the Staten Island Ballet's School of Dance.
In November I will be at the Danz"Aqui festival in Puerto Rico. As always there is the unexpected, yoga and more.

Gabri Christa will be performing along side 23 other dancers in:

"FROM THE HORSES"S MOUTH: Magical Tales of Real Dancers"
a work created by Jamie Cunningham and Tina Croll.
The piece celebrates the " heart and history of dance" with dancers and choreographers of all ages and traditions performing together and telling their stories. Each production of "From the Horses's Mouth" is considered a new "chapter" of the piece and is cast to showcase a specific group of performers- no two performances are the same. The Princeton performances will feature Ze'eva Cohen, Rebecca Lazier, Meghan Durham and others. The stories told range from humorous to poignant and reveal personal moments of loss, joy, frustration and triumph.
